Myofascial Release (MFR) is a whole body, manual therapy used to help restore symmetry and function to the human structure. Fascia is a specialized system which envelops, supports and defines every muscle, bone, organ, blood and lymphatic vessel, and nerve in the body. With injury, illness, repetitive stress, or overuse, the body attempts to support and contain the affected area, which can lead to inflammation. This swelling can cause the nearby fascia to become tight and restricted, limiting it’s–and the various structures it surrounds–ability to move properly. This can lead to chronic muscle and joint pain, spasms, and poor postural compensations and misalignment. Gentle sustained pressure and slow stretches help to free fascial adhesions, allowing for improved movement and eliminating painful symptoms.
